MEPSO’s General Director, Associate Professor Dr. Burim Latifi, participated as a panelist at the Macedonian Energy Forum 2026 during the session “From Reform to Delivery: Building a Competitive and Resilient Energy Future,” where he presented the company’s key projects for investment and development aimed at strengthening the transmission network and supporting the energy transition.
In his address, he highlighted the East–West electricity corridor, a regional initiative where North Macedonia plays an important role. Under national development plans, MEPSO plans and implements 18 projects with an estimated total value of approximately EUR 350 million, including new 400 kV transmission lines, substations, and interconnections to enhance regional connectivity and increase transmission capacity.
“Regional cooperation in the energy sector is not a choice but a necessity. Through interconnections and close coordination among transmission system operators, we can ensure greater security of supply, better integration of renewable energy sources, and more efficient utilization of transmission capacities. Regional optimization is more effective and cost-efficient than national isolation,” emphasized the Director of MEPSO.
He also highlighted the construction of the Bitola–Elbasan interconnection, the new 400 kV Miletkovo substation, and planned investments in modernizing and revitalizing the transmission network. At the same time, MEPSO continues to advance the digitalization of the system, deploy modern management solutions, and strengthen cybersecurity capabilities.
According to Latifi, these investments will contribute to greater reliability and stability of the power system, increased integration of renewable energy sources, and further strengthening of regional energy connectivity.
