At a formal ceremony, AD MEPSO celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment as a cornerstone institution of the Macedonian power system. The jubilee celebration was held in the presence of members of the Board of Directors and Supervisory Board, ministers, members of parliament, mayors, ambassadors, representatives of the diplomatic corps, stakeholders from the energy sector, domestic and international partners, media representatives, as well as numerous colleagues—both active and retired, including former directors.

The General Director of AD MEPSO, Mr. Burim Latifi, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the company’s two-decade development trajectory, its strategic role in ensuring a stable and secure electricity transmission system, and its ongoing reforms and future challenges.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest respect for our colleagues who, while we are gathered here, are working in the field under cold conditions, and for those on duty tonight at the National Control Centre,” Mr. Latifi emphasized.

He underlined that, within a relatively short period and in close cooperation with MEPSO’s expert teams, they implemented substantial regulatory and operational reforms to enhance transparency and competitiveness in the electricity market. By introducing market-based mechanisms to procure electricity, cover transmission losses, and balance supply and demand via the electricity exchange, the company and the state achieved tangible financial savings while simultaneously strengthening the overall stability of the power system.

“We are standing at a critical generational turning point. Some of our most experienced colleagues are retiring, and it is our responsibility to ensure that their knowledge and expertise are passed on to the next generation of young, highly qualified engineers. The professionalism and dedication of our employees constitute MEPSO’s most valuable capital,” the General Director stated.

The event featured remarks by Minister Sanja Božinovska, who emphasized MEPSO’s role as a stable and reliable transmission system operator and a key contributor to European energy integration. She received a commemorative plaque from General Director Latifi in recognition of her support for the sector.

“At the very heart of MEPSO are its people—generations of engineers, technicians, and experts who, through their expertise, responsibility, and professionalism, ensure daily that the power system operates reliably and securely. I am confident that MEPSO will continue to serve as a bridge between the national and the European energy systems and as a driving force of the green transition,” Božinovska stated.

The Directors of MEPSO’s subsidiaries, TSO – Mr. Saško Lakinski, and TGO Mr. Vase Jovevski, also spoke about the company’s history and achievements over the past twenty years.

The 20th anniversary celebration affirms AD MEPSO’s institutional maturity and its unwavering commitment to security of supply, responsible management of public resources, and continuous development of the national electricity system.
