Strengthening the network for integrating renewable energy sources (RES) is a key priority of the 2025-2035 Electricity Transmission System Development Plan, presented at today's public discussion. This includes the construction of new substations and transmission lines, modernization and digitization of the network, enhanced connectivity with neighboring transmission operators, integration into the regional electricity market, and improved supply security.
Representatives from energy companies, the Energy Regulatory Commission, the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU), and private investors discussed the development directions and priorities for the electricity transmission network, which the company plans to implement to support the domestic economy and ensure the seamless integration of renewable energy sources (RES).
“The new Development Plan, prepared by the Strategic Planning and Development Analysis Unit and the Connection Unit, is our pride as it includes all our plans and visions for ensuring a secure, reliable, and modern electricity transmission system,” said the Director-General, Burim Latifi.
“This Development Plan comes at a time of great challenges in the energy sector, a time when there is an influx of requests for RES integration. It is a document that foresees many development projects that should ensure stable system operation, improved electricity transmission and quality, and connection of other energy sources,” said the President of the Energy Regulatory Commission, Marko Bislimovski.
Valentina Stardelova from the Ministry of Energy recognized AD MEPSO as a leader in the region's energy sector. In addition to renewable energy sources, AD MEPSO will face the challenges posed by introducing battery systems into the transmission network in the upcoming period.
Branka Vasikj from the Strategic Planning and Development Analysis Unit said that with continuous investments in strengthening, expanding, modernizing, and digitizing the grid, we will be prepared for the challenges that come with integrating RES and their management.
To implement the projects outlined in the Development Plan, AD MEPSO will use its finances and financial resources provided through loans from the EBRD and grants from the WBIF (Western Balkan Investment Framework) and CIF (Climate Investment Fund).
