The Director General of AD MEPSO, Mr. Zuhdi Enuz, the Director of MEMO, Simon Shtinovski, and the President of ERC, Marko Bislimovski, together with representatives of transmission system operators, electricity exchanges, and regulatory authorities from Albania, Kosovo, and Greece, today in Athens, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the coupling of the electricity markets of Balkan countries.
'Signing this Memorandum is a part of the process in which all Balkan countries are working thoroughly and unreservedly,’ said Director Enuz at today's event.
‘The process of coupling the electricity markets into a single European electricity market is a powerful tool for improving market liquidity, ensuring network stability, integrating renewable energy sources, and enhancing transparency and competition. All participants in the market, including consumers and businesses, will benefit from these advantages, as it creates a dynamic and more efficient electricity market,’ he added.
The coupling into a single electricity market introduces a new era of energy cooperation, promising significant benefits for North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, and Greece in terms of improving energy security and integrating new energy resources. Consumers will also receive competitive and lower electricity prices.
