  • For the sake of supervision and control of the electric power system AD MEPSO provides efficient telecommunication and data exchange between the NDC and electric power facilities. To implement this function AD MEPSO plans the development of telecommunication systems on short-term and long-term bases. For that purpose an IT and TK Division within AD MEPSO is established within which also the telecommunication division operates.

  • This division is in charge of maintenance, planning and coordination of development of telecommunication network. In the last 2008 with the assistance of the loan extended by the World Bank and the European Investment Bank a protective optical ground wire with integrated optical fibers (OPGW) was supplied 400 km long. As-built route designs were prepared from the lines to which replacements of protective wires should be made and a Tender announced for the most favorable contractor to execute the installation works. This way the west ring will be closed from AD MEPSO optical network and parts of the EPO connected with the eastern part of the country.

  • The development of AD MEPSO optical telecommunication network is planned to be developed into two directions. One is the interconnection with the power systems of the neighboring countries and the second further connection with more power facilities and covering of the bigger distribution centers in the country.

  • The construction of new 400 kV transmission lines SS Bitola 2 – SS Meliti (Greece) and SS Shtip – SS Crvena Mogila (Bulgaria) on which OPGWs of integrated optical fibers have been installed shall ensure interconnection of the power systems among Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece including telecommunication connection of AD MEPSO network with the telecommunication network of the power companies of Greece and Bulgaria.

  • For the sake of higher reliability of World Bank’s lending system, funds have been provided for 24 hour monitoring system over the optical network to duly integrate and repair defects as shortly as possible.
